AS3000 & Electrical Safety Standard Auditing — Evolution Mining Northparkes
JMB Engineering was engaged by Evolution Mining to undertake a comprehensive electrical safety standard review across the entire Northparkes mine site, covering both surface and underground electrical infrastructure. This project involved a systematic audit of electrical installations against AS/NZS 3000, relevant mining electrical safety standards and site-specific compliance requirements.
Scope of Work
The audit covered the full extent of Northparkes’ electrical infrastructure including:
- Surface installations — Main substations, switchrooms, distribution boards, motor control centres, lighting and power reticulation across the processing plant, workshops, administration and ancillary facilities
- Underground installations — High voltage and low voltage distribution, transformer stations, pump stations, ventilation fan installations, conveyor drives and mobile plant charging infrastructure
- Compliance assessment — Gap analysis against AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Wiring Rules), AS/NZS 3007 (mining electrical installations), hazardous area classifications and relevant NSW mining legislation
Deliverables
JMB Engineering delivered a detailed compliance report identifying non-conformances, risk rankings and prioritised remediation recommendations. The report provided Northparkes’ electrical engineering and maintenance teams with a clear roadmap to address compliance gaps and improve the overall safety posture of their electrical infrastructure.
- Full site electrical safety audit (surface and underground)
- AS/NZS 3000 compliance gap analysis
- Risk-ranked non-conformance register
- Prioritised remediation plan with estimated costs and timeframes
- Practical recommendations for ongoing compliance management
This type of comprehensive electrical safety audit supports mine operators in meeting their obligations under the NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act and demonstrates a commitment to electrical safety management best practice.
